Ireland's gaming sector operates within a legislative framework that is evolving rapidly. GLAI keeps members informed and engaged at every stage.
The Gambling Regulation Act 2024 established the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) and created a new licensing framework. GLAI engaged extensively with the legislative process and continues to advise members on implementation.
GRAI is the independent statutory body responsible for licensing, compliance, and the regulation of gambling in Ireland. GLAI maintains a constructive working relationship with GRAI on behalf of its members.
Licensed gaming operators are subject to AML obligations under the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Acts. GLAI provides guidance and training to members on meeting these requirements.
GLAI members adhere to the GLAI Responsible Gambling Code of Practice, which sets minimum standards for player protection, self-exclusion, staff training, and harm minimisation.
Gaming operators process significant volumes of personal data. GLAI helps members understand obligations under GDPR and the Data Protection Acts, including the role of the Data Protection Commission.
Operating a licensed venue involves compliance with employment law, premises licensing requirements, and gaming-specific staff vetting. GLAI supports members in navigating these obligations.
GLAI's advocacy is grounded in evidence, respectful engagement, and a genuine commitment to good regulatory outcomes. We do not oppose regulation — we advocate for regulation that is proportionate, effective, and fair to lawful operators and their customers.
Full regulatory guidance documents are available to GLAI members.
